    DefaultNatural Balance Food

Bean has been eating NB Sweet Potato and Fish for a few weeks now. The vet suggested a grain free food due to flakey skin. Bean's stools are soft, not quite loose, and pretty regularly timed at twice a day, so I wouldn't call it diarrhea. Skin looks great now.

I'd like to see firm stools, and I'm thinking that the flakes were from something else that he ate. One day, he knocked over a cup of tomato soup(prepared with milk), and licked up a bit. A few days later his skin totally flaked-caused by the soup?

The breeder had him on Purina Pro Plan LBP, and his skin looked fine when I got him. What do you think of this food? I'd like to find something that's widely available and a good quality, and I'm guessing Purina is more affordable than NB!`

Oh, much more! A lot of people here feed Pro Plan. Honestly, tho, I'd go with the regular Puppy formula, not the LB. If I could, I would feed it, but, alas, Natural Balance LIDs works best for Caleb (I was feeding PP until switching to NB). I feel your pain about the cost- the last time I figured it out, it was just over $2/pound here.

Bean's skin and fur are great, soft and non-smelly with the NB, but I got some TOTW High Prairie today and Bean loves it. I'll see how he does, then try a little Pro Plan. BTW, the poops have been firmer lately. Go figure.

Just a heads up about TOTW-it didn't agree with Caleb. He ended up with diarrehea so bad it was just running out of him, even after a slow gradual change. At first, I thought he had just picked up a bug, so did the fast, then chicken & potato thing (sincehe's on grain free, I won't do rice). As soon as he was back on TOTW 100%, the diarrehea started all over again.

Both of my girls are on TOTW-I rotate 3 flavors (High Prairie, Sierra Mountain & Pacific Stream) and they are doing amazing on all 3. (and they LOVE all 3)
Poops are small and firm, the girls are lean and muscular (Java is at 60 lbs, down from 75; Moka is at 51 lbs, down from 58), their eyes and ears are clear and clean and their coats are gorgeous.
I am a big fan of TOTW...and we get it for $35/30 lb bag here!

Tractor Supply Store will have it on sale for $39, otherwise I get it at a place called Stateline Pet Supply. It's not a chain store, just local.
But Tractor Supply has sales/coupons too.

Agway sells it for a decent price also.
