    DefaultCryptorchid neuter cost?

Anyone recently had to neuter their cryptorchid dog (Only one or no decended testicle/s)? Im curious if the cost will be more or about the same as a spay. Im trying to figure out how much money to budget for vet bills in the next few months so thanks for any cost info you can share.

Prices can vary greatly from one region to another - your best bet for a quote would be to call up a few local vets for quotes. The Price often varies by weight of the dog a least a little.

Just call your vet. I priced out several vets for a spay recently. The gals on the phone were more than happy to give me the prices.

Call your local humane society too. They often offer reduced prices and ours reduces further if you volunteer for just one day with them.

i had it done with rex. it depends where the undescended teste is. they had to cut his abdomen to find his and then send it out for testing as it was unclear if that's what it actually was. turns out it was but it did cost more for the surgery. it's a conversation you need to have with the vet doing the surgery.

How old is this puppy? Sometimes they do appear quite late in the game. Waiting til the dog is more mature is better.

roughly the same as a spay as long as it's easy (relatively) to find ... but prices vary greatly

He is a little over 4 months. I don't want to neuter him until he is at least 6-7 months old, would you wait longer if it still has not decended?

Most breeders are recommending not altering puppies until they are physically mature...that means one heat cycle for girls and 18-24 months for boys. Granted some folks live lifestyles where they can't keep an intact animal, but there is more research popping up that it's actually healthier for the dog to get fixed later in life.

Yes, my original plan was to wait until 12-18 months. But....there is an increase in the risk of testicular cancer compared to a noncryptorchid dog and the vet says its better to get it out sooner (6-7 months) rather than later. So, I would like to wait if there is a chance it will decend, but if it will not for sure, I would rather protect his health by having him neutered.
