DefaultShould I put the 5lb's back on Tank?

2 months ago we took tank to the vet and he weighed 75lb's. The vet wanted us to take him down to 70 for his hip. We got him down to 70 and now he is losing more weight then we want him to. He is about 60-65lb's. I am going to give him fruit in the afternoon since I got an o.k. for it here. I know it may not help with his weight so how much should I increase his kibble? He gets 6 cups in the morning and then 7 at night now.

What kind of food are you feeding him that it's 13 cups a day? that seems a bit crazy to me.....

oh and whoops... i meant to comment on the 5 lbs - if that pic is of him at 65lbs, i'd keep him there - it looks good, plus you don't want any extra stress on his joints with the extra weight. I try to keep mine 5lbs under, but it usually works out to about 2-3lbs under realistically.

agree with the above, if you need to feed 13 cups for him to keep the weight on you should look at alternatives. He must poop a heck of alot! wow. I realize you mention he is active but that is an insane amount of food.

He looks good in that photo. But you are unable to stop the weight loss that is a seperate issue.

you're feeding him how much food per day? it cant be good for a dog to eat so much kibble, especially at one time.(bloat)
it cant be quality food, if that's how much you feed. i'd sooner skip the fruit and find better food.

Anoth reason I feed him more is that I do take him biking we can go up to about half a mile then stop for awhile then start again to head home. We don't go that fast(We were passed by joggers)

You said in the first post he is LOOSING weight wtih 7 cups a day - so no, you definately do not want to be cutting down the quantity.

If he needs THAT MUCH of that food then it may be better to look at different foods (different brands) where he needs less in quantity to keep his weight. Even if the food itself is slightly more you save money if he is eating less. (I think the average most feed is 3-4 cups a day depending on the dog and the food).
