    DefaultBad breath since surgery! YUCK

Okay like I said we are new to this, but Bella Mia has the worse breath since being spayed last Sat. Is this normal? She had been given a few sedative tablets as well. Before this she still had that sweet puppy breath, so we are hoping it won't stay stinky like this.

We did not notice Miko's breath being worse after getting her spayed. However, she does have gingivitis problem that gave her stinky breath. To combat that, we've started brushing and rinsing her teeth on a regular basis. And now we don't have to wear gas masks when we are around her.

My 3 year old male had cataract surgery in August and it was a good 2-3 weeks before he stopped smelling nasty. Hard to describe the smell - but sort of like very nasty sox.

    I'm sure she will improve.

Bella's is more like "poopie breathe" and that is why we are especially grossed out by it. But she is also teething so I think it's a combo platter. The surgery, the meds given and her teething combined, but it's good to know that this too should pass!!!

Linda, if you don't mind me asking how do you rinse her mouth? I know that sounds silly but what I mean is are you using a special antiseptic rinse for her?

We use the Petrodex Dental Rinse. We spray it on her teeth, she licks it off and seems to enjoy the taste. Our vet says that it is ok for the rinse to be swallowed.
