DefaultTips for keeping coat hydrated in winter?

So it's cold enough that the Super has put on our heat. I have no control over the settings & it gets really dry in my apartment. I'm looking into getting a humidifier because while the dryness bothers me a bit, it's Diesel's coat I'm more concerned about. I can always lather on moisturizer for me!

The dander on him this week is really noticeable & he's scratching alot, I can only imagine how uncomfortable it must feel for the poor guy. I've been giving him a squirt of an essential fatty acid supplement skin & coat conditioner for dogs in his food daily (Allerderm Efa-Z Plus), but aside from that, any other tips on how to keep his coat hydrated?

Believe it or not, simply brushing will help.

Never had a problem with my dog's coats. Their skin is not like ours - they don't need moisturizer.

I don't think she's putting conditioner on Diesle. The stuff she's giving him is a skin & coat supplement.

I've been brushing him once a week, but the last few days his skin has been so dry that the brushing is irritating him.

Thanks, Laura. So like a can of sardines? How many actual sardines should I give him?

What kind of brush are you using? A Zoom Groom/rubber curry comb shouldn't bother him. Finish up with a nice bristle brush. The brush helps stimulate and spread the natural oils.

I forgot about the sardines. LOL Caleb gets a can dumped on his breakfast every Wednesday.

I second what Laura said. I give Saba a can of sardines in water with his food once a week (which seems enough for him) and after about 2 months I noticed a big difference in his coat - he also had lots of dander.
