DefaultPuppies eating there own poo =(

I have 2 female 6 month old puppies and they eat each other and there own poo. Does anyone know why they might be doing this? They are on Kirkland puppy and eat very well never hungry. But this is gross and I have never had a dog do this before. =(

Genetically, dogs are scavengers and will consume anything remotely resembling a food source - and that includes stool. Sadly and disgustingly, it's a common habit.

The only sure fire, 100% solution is to immediately clean up after the dogs.

What Kind of food are they eating usally its cause of the food they are eating that means its is not digesting well and they are pooing before it gets digested in there tummy so to them it smells and tast just like there food.

I have tried everything under the sun to get my dogs to stop and have not had any luck at all. So...I've just resorted to picking it up immediately.

Not a good idea at their age.

pineapple tastes terrible when eaten in poop add some pineapple juice or Pumpkin, Spinach, Pickles or Garlic to there food.

Also there is meds that are made for this type of problem forbid and deter.

There are many reasons why dogs and puppies do this. Puppies may have a vitamin or mineral deficiency and they eat feces to restore this balance.

If a puppy is punished for eliminating (pooping) inside your house he may on future occasions eat his poop to "hide the evidence". This could happen because your puppy has misinterpreted the punishment. In other words he believes that he was punished for pooping, rather than for pooping in the wrong area.

Could be that your dog is cleaning up his living area. This of course should be the owner's job.

Could be the result of over feeding. If a dog is over-fed he doesn't properly digest his food, therefore his feces still smell and taste like his dinner!

If you only feed once a day, some dogs can become very hungry and scavenge around for any food (including poo).

Some dogs have been known to develop Coprophagia when put on certain medications or antibiotics.

when changing their dog's diet the dog has developed coprophagia - especially if the change was to a diet high in fat.

Thank goodness Sadie has never done that or had any interest in the cat's litter box. Now as for this new pup....he is going to be a handful!!
