    QuestionRaw Meat

Our baby girl gained a lot over the winter; our own fault for not providing her enough exercise and way too many treats; regardless we're working hard at getting the extra weight off her.

I have switched her to half kibble (Science Diet light) and half raw meats (chicken, beef and lamb), her coat looks much better and she 'appears' to be slimming a little. I'm not sure if it's just wishful thinking or not. Anyone else have experience with meat or a good safe way to slim down a lab. TIA

The Natural/Raw diet section may have more info on raw diets.

Are you feeding half and half at each meal or kibble in the AM and meats in the PM (or vice versa)? I ask because they usually recommend if you do half and half to split them in meals (say kibble in the AM, meats i the PM) as they are not digested at the same speed.

Is there a particular reason you have picked Science Diet (and the light fomula) to feed your pup? How old is she again? There are a few formulas of Science Diet which are great for dogs with health issues but generally speaking they are really really heavy on the grain as far as kibble goes - I personally prefer foods with fewer grains adn fillers.

For weight loss I usually go with less kibble and more exercise (same as humans)

What Tanya said! The best way I know to get weight off them is LOTS of swimming.

She is 4 (still my baby though). We are ensuring that she is getting more exercise. Our vet suggested that we use SD from when she was a puppy; I just recently found out that it has one of the lowest amounts of meat in it of the 'better' foods. We'll likely change it up on the next bag, she has her annual check up in a couple weeks.

I will try the kibble in the morning and meat in the evening.
