I'd like to start giving Thrash the fish oil capules, as they seem very beneficial. I'd just like to get feedback from you people who currently give them.
What would be a good age to start on them? What would the dosage be for a 10 week old pup? What are the benefits of giving them?
I've only just started to look into this and would like to get all my information straight before I make a definite decission.
Not sure what is the appropriate age to start. I adopted my dog at 13 months of age and started him on it right away. I buy mine from Walmart, the Spring Valley brand. I give one gel cap a day.
I don't like giving puppies any suppliments at all. A good puppy food will have everything they need at that age.
I give all my dogs fish oil capsules. It's not going to hurt them, and can be very beneficial. It is also a very good anti-inflammatory, and two of my dogs (seniors now) have arthritis and the fish oil does seem to help them). I take it myself for my arthritis and I can tell you 100% that it makes a difference. When I don't take it for a few days I start to feel like crap (sore joints all over).
i agree with nicole; i would not give them to a growing puppy.
I agree with the others - I would avoid giving the fish oil to a puppy. Both of my dogs are on Welactin - it is a liquid oil supplement that I just squirt on to their food. Abbey wouldn't eat the capsules, so I figured liquid was the best way for her.
Jeb gets one capsule daily and loves them. Will probably start Hampton on them when he's over a year old.

Iams did do studies in puppies with fish oil added to the diet, see Dogs in Canada for info on that.
You could feed a food high in fish oil, like Acana or Orijen. I don't see why it would hurt a puppy to get a capsule of fish oil a day, but you may need to work up to that amount so as not to upset his tummy. My dog has been on them since she was four months old, but she gets them because she has a bad heart (TVD), and in addition to Acana food. If you do give extra fish oil make sure it has a bit of vitamin E in it to prevent oxidation.
Toby is 4 months old and vet recommended I start him on them for the dry flaky skin condition he has
My vet gave me dermacaps (LIQUID FISH OIL) fr Stoli at 4 months
