My vet wants to do my pups rabies shot at 16 weeks. My daughters vet said her pup will get his shot when the baby canine teeth come out, at around 6 months.
Is there a preferred age for the first rabies shot ? Thank's in advance for your answers.
Either is OK. A lot will depend on where you live. Here, in east Texas, we have a serious problem with rabies in skunks. There have been numerous reports of skunks that were subsequently tested positive for rabies actually climbing into fences and attacking dogs. I wouldn't be comfortable waiting until my pup was 6 months old to protect him/her from this disease.
I like to separate my rabies from the combos, etc by at least 3 wks.
If rabies is a problem in your area, I would likely get it sooner but we've not had a reported case in years in mine, so I wait until 5-6 mos here. Anne

I separate the rabies from distemper and parvo by at least 4 weeks. Last vacc is at 16 weeks, rabies at 20
