    DefaultPanacur (Labby?)

Hey Labby, or anyone else who knows: Can you give me that Panacur dose that goes for a few days, rest, then picks back up and repeats a couple of times? I can't remember the dosing periods.

    Thanks!

Hey Connie. I think it's 7 days on, 7 days off, then 5 days on. Something like that?

    Maybe this will help.

But I usually do 5-7 days on, then the same off, then back on again. Are you treating for Giardia?

What Felicia said. That's for Giardia.

    Thanks

We are treating Belv, the rescue chocolate Lab, for giardia. Nothing showed on his fecal, but he has these very soft movements, almost diarrhea, a little mucousy. The vet first put him on 5 days of Metronidazole, and when it didn't seem any better I asked for Panacur. They gave him 3 days worth, and didn't seem to think a second round was necessary.

I remember when Angus was diagnosed with giardia, we did Labby's regime.

So anyway - Belv has had three days of Panacur, and he's out. Mom said movements look better. Should I leave well enough alone and see what happens? No giardia on fecal flotation test, but neither did Angus. I don't really want to pay $100 for the antigen test. We agreed to just treat and see if it helped.

    What do you think?

Well actually the last time that we did Panacur for my parents' dog, it was 3 days worth and then I think it was a week or two later we did another 3 days...

But when we did it with Abbey we had a week's worth... Different vets do it differently I'm guessing?

Abbey had loose stools for a while and the vet thought it might be Giardia.. Tested a fecal, nothing.. Antigen test showed nothing, too. Weird.. It went away on it's own, thankfully.

Well, since he's already had the three days and has been off for a day now, maybe we should do it this way.

Might work.. If I recall correctly, the vet said that the 3 days worth *should* get rid of Giardia, but just in case, to do it after a week or two to kick it in the butt and make sure it's gone.
