If my eye sight was better it woulda/coulda/shoulda been five times. :surprise:
I've been alternating the two dawgs hunting solo the past few days. This morning was Remi's turn.
Had two small groups of Gadwalls work us a half hour apart, the first 15 mins after LST. Cupped over the mallard decoys 30 yards out and I only managed one. Have a life long habit instilled by my dad over 50 years ago of staying on a bird that's hit but doesn't drop. It took two follow up shots to put that duck down after only feathers flew on the first one, and a whiff on the 2nd.
The second group was wary. We heard more early shooting around us this morning than all season long. Six more Gads and about as many Teal joined up about 150 yards out and high and gave us a nervous look on two passes. They then split apart and the gads came back around a little lower for a 3rd time but were still really shy. I picked what looked like the largest bird directly overhead (easy 35+) and it took three shots to splash that one.
Don'tcha hate that indecision of ... "let them go around one more time or take em on the next pass cause they aren't gonna give you another chance"? Truth be known, Remi made the choice for me because on the 3rd pass she couldn't contain herself any longer and began whining. Naughty girl! But she made two picture perfect retrieves to hand back in the blind so it's ok, little girl.
We were done by 7:30 and home by 8 am to start chores. It's nice to be able to hunt close to home.
Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.
Good job Remy.

Some people are like slinkies. Not really good for much, but bring a smile to your face when pushed down the stairs.
Atta girl Remi!!! :-* :-* You sound like you are becoming just as good, if not better, than your brother!
It's not the destination, it's the journey!
