Get in good with the techs at your practice and stay on their good side!

My husband and I just decided that we're going to drive home to PA from MI for Thanksgiving. Poor Otis, however, gets horrifically carsick - would puke all the way from Ann Arbor to central PA. We'd get about 45minutes into the trip, hear the sound of him sitting up in his crate in the back of the car, and he'd be looking at us, drooling, perfectly miserable, then start puking his guts out. No fun for anybody.

I got in touch with one of the techs at my practice, and she got the vet to refill his Cerenia prescription for me without needing to bring him in for an appointment. Woo-hoo!!

I am soooooo lucky one of my good friends is a vet tech. She's my "go-to" when I have an issue, but I think I might be unnecessarily freaking out. She even expressed Brooklyn's anal glands once when she was visiting cuz Boo was scooting - NOW THAT'S a REAL FRIEND.

I heart my vet techs, all except one. She's nasty on purpose.

    Happy driving!

    Yeah, she is!

I'd do it for you, but I'd charge a $5 fee (plus expenses for the drive from Michigan). I am not a real friend.

Just a thought. Have you tried opening a window? My girl Magnum used to get car sick all the time, exactly as you describe, she'd sit up, drool, and start puking. Not fun at all. A co-worker told me, "keep a window open a crack near her." Damned if that didn't do the trick. She's never been carsick again.

We tried open windows, closed windows, facing a different direction, no meal before long trip, light meal before long trip, out of the crate, dramamine, benedryl, & phenergen. I figure for the 2-3x a year we take a long car ride, it's worth the $10 for the Cerenia.
