DefaultRumple - where the name came from

Thanks to everyone for welcoming Rumple to the JL forums. It certainly was a difficult decision jumping back into lab fatherhood, but I have no doubt Rumple will be worth it and do his best to be a great lab like Ellis & Yukon were...

A LOT of people have been saying that they LOVE the name "Rumple" and wonder where it came from. Unfortunately I can't take credit. This is how it goes: When Ellen and I finally started discussing if we would ever get another dog, we were extremely torn between getting a lab, or something else, a rescue, or a purebred, a puppy, or rescuing an older dog that needed a forever home. It was brutal and I lost hours of sleep trying to decide what to do...

While searching online for older pups in need of a home, we came across this beautiful 10 year old, furry Newfoundlander from Southern California. We both fell in love with him... his name was "Rumple". We were tempted to adopt him, but my wife figured it wasn't smart for my mental health to adopt an older dog, seeing as what we had just, and were still going through.

When we eventually settled on a "fox red" lab, I thought we would call him Hudson. Ellen kept coming back to the name Rumple though, however, I thought it was better suited for a really furry dog - so we were going with Hudson. But as the time got closer to when our little red man would arrive, we kept bringing up the name Rumple again and again. I asked my wife why she liked the name Rumple so much. She said, "every time we say it, you smile, and you haven't smiled in 3 years..."

It's true, try to say "Rumple" without smiling, it's impossible.
So Rumple it is, and he's here to stay.

    There you have it.

    Kolin

Oh goodness. The part about you not smiling in three years. I so understand. It was a long time for me too.

    Rumple is perfect.

    Kolin and Ellen,

I missed the first post with Rumple, but just let me say I'm so glad you guys have gone ahead and welcomed another into the fold. I truly believe that puppies help heal your heart like nothing else can.

I think Rumple is a fantastic name, and his colouring is gorgeous. I'm sure Ellis and Yukon are smiling down at him, and you guys.
