    DefaultFoot update

Another update for anyone interested in the boys' feet:

Simon's feet have almost totally healed. He is still missing a little hair on some of his back toes, but front feet are perfect once again, and I hope back are right behind them.

Angus is not healing as fast. He does seem some better, but still has several places with dark discoloration and a few raw spots.

He went back to the vet on Friday. Vet didn't think they were coming along either, and wants to do a punch biopsy next. Expensive, and I'm not convinced this will tell us anything useful.

I've been talking to Brenda about it a lot, and she is a big fan of apple cider vinegar to treat topically. So for the past couple of days I've been using a 50/50 ACV and water mix on Angus' feet. I don't know if I'm imagining it, but to me they already look a little better.

I am currently a little paranoid that there's something going on with his immune system and that's why he's not healing. We've been discussing tick borne diseases, but Brenda thinks I'd be seeing more symptoms if it was that.

I'm home all this week, so I have plenty of time to obsess...

Coconut oil is a good one too (virgin, unrefined), as well as oil of oregano orally, to really pack a punch. Worth a shot maybe..?

Hope they continue to improve and get better quick!

No advice, just hoping that they get completely better soon. I sure hope the apple vinegar works.

Good news on Simon, but poor Angus. I hope the vinegar works. So - did I miss it or do they still not really know what the cause of the problem is?

Nope, you didn't miss anything...still no idea what the problem is, exactly. The results of the state lab analysis were sort of inconclusive. They showed alterneria as the fungus, but it usually only manifests as a problem on those with severely compromised immune systems. And that was from Simon's feet. Angus only showed yeast on his culture. Also, alterneria is sort of everywhere: grass, soil, fungus, dust, in your house, on your windowsills, etc. So...could be a lab contaminant, too.

There is a lot of support for the allergy theory with Angus. Except that his ears are so perfect. Really, you've never seen prettier, pinker ears. He's never had that first ear infection. And when I think of allergic dogs, I think of gunky ears...right?

    HMMM...

Simon gets coconut oil because of itchy skin and allergy symptoms. I've been giving Angus fish oil. I think I'll give Angus coconut oil for a while and see what happens! Good call!

Oh crap. I hope you can figure something out for Angus.

I forgot, what food do you have them on? Do you know if Angus has any deficiencies of vitamins or anything?

I would maybe consider trying something like Coenzyme Q10 to help boost his immune system and see if it would help...

Gah. I'll be doing some research..!
