I found this guy on the road yesterday on my way to work.
Talked to a man who lived right there and he didn't recognize him and knew that he didnt' belong to the neighbors. So I put him in my car and off we went. There is one vet locally so I went there after stopping and asking a few people if they recognized him to no avail. They didn't recognize him at the vets but they agreed to keep him for the day and night til they close today and I could figure out what to do.
So on my way to work, I stopped to see Trish with Lab Rescue at her store. She wasn't there but I gave her staff my info and the info on the dog in case someone came looking for him. When I girl came in all panicked and asked if we had seen a fawn colored English Mastiff, I told her I just took him to the vet. She took off crying. I called the vet and got the report that she was quite relieved to get him back.
He is beautiful and lovable. Just sat in Oakley's spot in the back of my Rav 4 like he was supposed to be there and never made a sound.
I just couldn't leave him on the road to risk him getting hit by a car. He already had cars stopped and impatient people trying to get by him.
I am glad the story had a happy ending. Good of you to look after him.
Your good deed for the year !
Aw - what a nice story! He's a beautiful boy!
I've done that many times. When I was a SAHM I kept the dogs that found me until their owners finally showed up. Since I have been back to work FT, I either take them to the local police station where they have a crate and will hold the dog - or I call the local animal control who brings them to a no-kill shelter in the area. I had one dog show up on my street years ago late at night - he was a huge black mastiff type. He followed my van to my house and I held him until I could get animal control to pick him up. Found out that his people picked him up a couple of days later - he had gotten about 20 miles from home!
I've actually had people get pissed at me for holding their dog. Apparently they think that their dog running loose in suburban NJ on busy streets is better than my holding on to them in safe surroundings until they are located. I always call the police and let them know I have the dog.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
Awww what a great ending! So glad you stopped!!!

GOOD JOB!!! WAY TO GO!!!
I love this story. So glad you found him and got him to safety. I'll bet that girl was so grateful. I would want someone to do just what you did.
He's soooo beautiful.
Yeah! Thanks for picking him up. Glad everything worked out.
Awesome! I'm very glad that the dog had an owner!!
