There are two houses down the street with beautiful labs. They do not leash them or fence them in, just let them out , often alone. They wander up the street on their own and my dogs go nuts when they see a dog sniffing the front fence, their territory. I grab a leash and take them home. The owners do not thank me or even seem particularly pleased to get them back. Should I continue to take them back? It really bothers me to see a dog roaming on his own.
Call your animal control. The owners will figure it out.
Hershey Kisses, In charge of getting Ed out to the dog park so that he gets some exercise.
That's too bad. I think I would take them in my house or yard for a few hours and see if they come looking for them. If they don't, don't take them back, find them a home that cares. If they do, tell them next time you're calling AC.
Poor dogs. That's a toughie.. just be careful with animal control if you do end up calling, because a lot of the time they will just come take the dog and then the owners might not even care.
Is it acceptable to call a lab rescue group in this situation? Then you would know the dogs would get a good home.
Invite them to play with your dogs!
Many people do that where I live. I´ve just become friends with most of them now and they never bother us. The part that does bother me is that they pollute the street and no-one takes care of cleaning up afterwards...
As long as they are not aggressive with my two I´m ok.
My worry would be that they might get injured by a car. Maybe try talking to them about your concerns...if that does not work and you are worried for their safety or yours and your dogs call animal control and maybe they will give the owners a talking too.
I would also take them home with me and keep them and see what the people would do. Although, I would not call animal control because I would be afraid of them not finding a good home. Idiots!
To err is human, to forgive, canine.
