    DefaultWhy Reggie can't get up...

I thought I'd post this picture just so that you'd get an idea of why Reggie has trouble getting up. If you look at this picture, you'll see both of his back legs sticking straight out. Due to his lack of feeling and mobility, he can't seem to bring those back legs underneath him to push himself up. If I can pull him forward and up, once those legs get under him, he can make it on his own. I've found if I stick a foot in front of his, it helps him get into the right position to do this.

From the picture, I'm now wondering if Reg has a herniated vertebral disk or trapped nerve (from a herniated disk). Possibility?

    Nance,

Orthovet says no. In the past Reggie has had a pinched nerve but recovered quickly (within two days) on a course of prednisone. The Orthovet says its definitely neurological and he did not respond at all to a course of pred. Highly likely it is degenerative myelopathy which is a diagnosis of exclusion.

    Sandy,
He scoots a little. Most times he can get himself up eventually. Depends if he is having a good day or a bad one.

i asked because i had a lab mix that had a bad disc. i had surgery done on her but she still had to take rimadyl as she had HD and ED...yeh, she was a pound puppy...but i would see her do that a lot.

i saw his harness; that looks like it will help a lot.

    Sandy,

I found it interest that Reggie has x-rays recently as part of his diagnosis and the vet says that he has perfect hips, no signs of dysplasia or arthritis at all.
