I have been noticing some labs have the neck skin rolls and some dont...They look like 2 rolls of skin and fur that run straight up and down from the dogs chin to almost the chest. My yellow lab has them but my black lab doesnt. Why do some labs have them and others dont...and is it just part of the breed??? None of my huskies have neck rolls.
it just happens
Grace and Hudler both have them, Maddy doesn't.
Dutch has a nice waddle, as I call it. And so does Zena; Zoe not so much.
Puff YF (field line) has them.
I don't recall if Bess BF (bench line) had them or not. If she did, I think they weren't as prominent as Puff's.
Puff [YF, AKC field line (from competing HT/FT breeder) 62 lbs, dob: 8-'01]
Bess [BF, AKC bench line (from competing show breeder) 55 lbs., 1967-1981] "Poor Bess, the Wonder Dog":
Nellie has them.
If shoulders are a bit upright that can cause rolls, but so can extra poundage. I also think too much muscling in the front end as compared to the rear can cause it (as in very hard runners/jumpers like agility dogs), but that's just an observation of my own crew.

I dont agree with the poundage theory.. after looking at both my labs again...indeed both of them have the rolls...my black lab is definatly not on the heavy side and neither is my yellow....would still love to hear why labs have this!!
Saba's neck rolls are pretty big - I looked at one of his baby photos and I saw the beginings of them early on.
He looks like a turkey.. sort of...
My ginger has them she is more english blocky field trial yellow lab and hemi is more of the american pet black lab doesnt have them not sure if it has anything to do with the different style lab or not .Ginger is also a lean muscle machine and hemi is a plump butter ball
