When I do retrieves with Seamus and Flynn I wear this apron with a huge pocket across the front. The apron kind of saves my play clothes from the muck and mire they leave on me when giving me the tennisball. I keep that front pocket full of t/bs, 3 or 4, and a spit rag.
When we go out I have 1 t/b and a clean spit rag in my hand, the others are in that pocket.
Himself has decided he wants to nominate which t/b is to be thrown! I throw out the first one... NO! I want that one! *nose poke to pocket*
Okay, then, here. This one's nice and crusty! All the way back, Seamus!
NO! I want that one! *second nose poke to pocket*
And so it goes until there is only 1 t/b left in the pocket. "All the way back, Seamus! Take it or leave it!"
And the game is officially on. Why he started this I have NO idea but I will say it's a tad annoying. Oh, I accommodate my boy, but SHEESH!
Seamus and Flynn
hahahaha! picky pup! he smells the ONE he wants!
How funny! Whne I first started playing fetch with Tal, I would have two of those rubber chuck it balls. Not sure why, but he and Barney have never really cared for the tennis balls only those rubber ones. Anyway, I figured I would throw one, he retrieves it, and when he gets back I would throw the second,. But HE would not budge until I threw the SECOND ball! **sigh** lol
Nance, try letting Seamus choose the ball before you throw. Maybe one smells better than the rest.
Buddy and Champ each retrieve different balls. Champ only goes for the red Kong ball, and Buddy only goes after tennis balls. They will not retrieve each others, unless Champ doesn't see where one of his goes and he can't find it. Then Buddy will go get it for him, if he saw where it went.

That is so cute Mr. Seamus!
May I always be the kind of person my dog thinks I am

Not so silly ! Why use all of that energy chasing one ballwhen he can use the same energy to chase three !
Silly mum not to understand
Sounds like my Lucy. She had one specific tennis ball - a grody, nasty one with a flap in the side where she had opened it up. That was her favorite. The tennis ball collection always wound up under the couch and she'd pester us to get that one ball out. None of the others would do. Pull out a ball - she'd take it, spit it out and continue her insistent woof at us to get the right one.
He's a particular guy!
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
I guess he has a favorite. Maybe he likes the smell of a certain one.
Picky, picky, picky . For reasons too numerous to mention, we often have tennis balls in the back yard or on the bank of our pond. If I throw and Abby can't find her ball, none of the others will do. I've seen her reject 4 balls. I have to go with her and help her "find it".
Max doesn't care. Ball, pine cone, stick, horseshoe, dummy...if I throw it, he'll get it and bring it back. If he brings his back and Abby hasn't, I say "find it" and he'll help her.
Max is also a slobberer and the apron/spit rag is a fantastic idea...thanks!!
