I think I am going to need it. If you look close at the bottom of the steps.....that's mud. It is supposed to rain tomorrow & Wednesday. It will be a mudhole for sure. We tried planting grass seed but it never took. Can't understand why. :
Molly & Abby sitting on the deck, enjoying the weather.
Someone needs to engineer a new strain of grass that can withstand labs tearing around on it and peeing on it!!
I just had sod put in my yard along with sprinklers and a lot of rock as grass won't grow around my mulberry tree. I know you can get it on Sat morning at Home Depot & Lowes. It needs to be laid ASAP and kept wet to develope deep root.
I replaced the few feet of mud off the deck with large paving blocks
That lawn looks vaguely familiar...<scratches head>....where have I seen that before? Oh yeah, I remember. OUR Cooper's backyard. :-\ Looks good right now though.....a ton of white stuff covering it.
georgie, don't feel bad-----our yard is not very big but what we DO have is mostly dirt/mud by now, thanks to Breezy and her pal Roxy. : From them flying around back there and from digging > > there isn't much actual grass left. :-\ I am wondering what to do, as planting new grass or laying down sod will most likely get torn up again anyway! Spring is almost here and I'm bracing myself for Daily Doggie Mudwrestling Sessions. Aaahhh!
What gets me is we have a large yard but they still just run around & around the deck & kick up & ruin the grass. Why can't they take their games of chase further down the yard? :
I may have to pm Eric & ask him about the blocks he put down.
If nothing else you could throw some straw down? At least it wouldnt be a complete mudhole.

We have a very similar mud hole right at the bottom of our deck steps. I've planted grass there several times with little luck. That's Mocha's favorite pee spot so she kills it all. I've tried keeping her off it for a few months even and the grass grew but it died again. I don't know what to tell you. I don't want to pave the whole back yard and I know even if I do a that area they will just make the area next to it muddy.
I was going to suggest this, too. Or a small square of gravel, which will allow evaporation/drainage.Originally Posted by bearsdad
