DefaultAllergies or not? A POLL-- Please respond.

Just wondering how common it is for labs to have allergies. So many posts on the forum are about intolerances to food and/or environment. It is frustrating for those of us that are dealing with it this problem. There are no easy answers. These poor dogs suffer so, but why? How many actually lead itch free lives?

I know that getting a dog from a reputable breeder gives some assurance that they will be free of orthopedic problems. But is this true of allergies too? Hopefully this poll with shed some light on how common it is.

Please include what your dogs are allergic too as well...that is...if you know.

One with and one without allergies.

Both are rescue so I don't fit the poll.

Sammi's breeder is a one time BYb, I didn't know better! It was before my jl days. That being said she is pretty darned healthy, I did meet Sammi's mom and dad, both were on site and very healthy looking! I still have contact with her breeder, she has not bred mom since and has no intentions of doing so! She loves seeing pic. of Sammi and I have to say she had done everything to make Sammi's first wks. wonderful and I truly have no complants! Di

Nick_Charles....I didn't even think about rescue. I wish there were 2 more options and I could put that in. Since most reputable breeders require the dogs be returned to them I think that most of those in rescue would fall in the second catagory.

I selected no allergies, BYB. (Bella's a mutt from a shelter so I guess that puts her in the BYB category )

    Zoe was from an oopsie.
I really cannot say BYB because they
are not breeders, but very uneducated?

    No allergies. She is 5

    Does Guthrie have allergies, Megan?

The poll might be slightly weighted, as I would guess more people have BYB dogs than reputable breeder dogs..... just a guess though. You'd have to have equal amounts of both to have a truly accurate poll.

I put down Cinnamon had allergies only because she had a series of yeast ear infections as a puppy. It started after I changed her food and ended when I switched her to another food. Now she was also on a month long drug and my cousin who is a vet had me start her on Zymox ear drops after the drugs her vet gave us was over.

So I am not sure if it was an allergy to the food or just happened at the same time and what exactly caused it not to come back but I am just glad in 2 years it hasn't reappeared.

Reputable and No allergies~ I guess we are lucky never to have had the worry of allergies.

I remember when Guthrie broke out in those terrible hives and lumps and bumps, i hope he is ok~
