Just got back from the vet!
She didn't seem too alarmed about Henery's little lumpy but did poke and prod quite a bit. It's smaller than a (Canadian) Smartie but seems to have a little stalk of sorts... she's thinking it's probably cystic, either fluid filled or perhaps (because of where it is on his chest) fat filled.
We discussed what to do, either wait and see, do a needle aspirate and send for path (and then we may or may not have to excise it depending on what it is), or just excise it, since it's so small and close to his skin, and send the whole whatever-it-is to path. She understands my paranoia considering that crusty thing he had over a year ago was also on a stalk.
Her gut feeling was that it wasn't a MCT based on feel alone, but... without a needle aspirate, we wouldn't know for sure.
She feels that she can excise it under a local anesthetic, with Henry on a mild sedative. That, to me, is better than waiting for it to grow, and having to take it out under a general anesthetic (which he has had a rough time with in the past).
So.... that's what we're going to do. Henery has an appt next Thursday.
I'm curious to see what this thing looks like once she gets it out... I hope she'll let me see it before she sends it off.
... while I was rubbing his belly.
It feels like the size of a pea, not hard but not squishy either, and feels like it's moveable somewhat, like a pea rolling around under his skin. It's in his right armpit area, about an inch from his midline. When I part the fur, his skin looks normal, no redness or swelling, and the lump doesn't stick out.
I'm calling his vet first thing in the morning.
I know we can't diagnose or anything over the internet, but any thoughts on what it might be? My first ones were:
I'm just uber-paranoid after this thing,
which was behind his right shoulderblade, made him extremely ill 15 months ago....
This is what it looked like when that scabby thing fell off...
So yeah, I'm kinda paranoid. :-\
:-X :-X What was that thing?!?!
I wish I knew Can you take him to a vet tomorrow so they can check it out, I hope it's nothing serious, please let us know. Maybe someone else may know.
Oh Felicia, I hope it's nothing!
Well, as you know, no way to know without having it aspirated. :-\ Good for you for finding it quickly.
I'll be checking in tomorrow for an update after the vet. Fingers and paws crossed here for Henery!

Gross, huh? :-X
Don't know. Vet(s) didn't know for sure. Specialist vets didn't know. I had boarded him for 3.5 weeks while on vacation, and within 24 hours of coming home from the boarding place, he went from normal to sick sick SICK. He wouldn't eat, he wouldn't walk, he just shook. He spiked a high fever and had tremors in his hind legs and lower neck pain. Our vets initially thought meningitis or encephalitis, and he was rushed to the emerg vet hospital in Oakville where he spent the next 3 days on IV antibiotics and fluids, and having every test done imaginable. Poor fella.
Our current vet thinks that whatever caused that puncture wound, which then proceeded to abscess (god only knows how long this was going on before I picked him up) and then send toxins through his body, was what made him so ill.
So now I'm a little paranoid about this lumpybumpy thing.
Regina, I'm calling his vet first thing tomorrow morning.
Connie, I was hoping you'd see this.
When Angus had his MCT, was it big? small? Did it stick out of his skin? Did it move around?
Yep, aspiration. That's what I was thinking....
I think I just threw up in my mouth a bit. :-X
Yikes. I hope this wee bump doesn't turn out like the last one!!
Will hope it is nothing. Tank as one of those on his leg but you can see because there is no fat there one of the few places on his body with no fat ;D It sounds very similar to what you are experiencing. The dermatologists at A&M a couple weeks ago barely gave it a cursory glance. The vet may just tell you to watch it for a while and see if it changes.

How's our Tankie doing??
I can understand your paranoia. Hope it's just nothing. I've had my share of lumps aspirated. Well they weren't exactly my lumps. But so far so good.
