    DefaultLab fur, short, medium, long(curly)??

Having seen so many pictures of Labs here, I am curious if the appearance of their fur has different names or if there is a desired appearance for breed conformance.

    Examples:
Kelrobin Matilda appears to have a short smooth coat ( a lot like HK's)
Kelrobin Seamus appears to have a slightly longer coat, a bit coarser
And Wigwag's siggy black lab appears to have a much longer almost curly coat (I think much like some Newfie's I have seen.)

Relative to conformation, is there a preference? I am sure many of us have a look that we like better, although I like them all.

HK looks very short compared to alfies his is thicker but he moults more which is annoying. His is thicker on his back and a bit corser.

    From the standard:

The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an "otter" tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop; powerful jaws; and its "kind," friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament.
    and

    Coat
The coat is a distinctive feature of the Labrador Retriever. It should be short, straight and very dense, giving a fairly hard feeling to the hand. The Labrador should have a soft, weather-resistant undercoat that provides protection from water, cold and all types of ground cover. A slight wave down the back is permissible. Woolly coats, soft silky coats, and sparse slick coats are not typical of the breed, and should be severely penalized.

Baloo has medium length hair (I think.....?) and very soft, relatively little shedding. Not to the standard by any means, but I love it.
