    DefaultIt's over ... how bittersweet!

If there's any consolation, I won't have to get up with the dawgs at 4:30 every single morning for the next nine months until the next waterfowl season rolls around. Now I can sleep in ... until at least 6 am.

Today's hunt included Cappy last retrieve of the year, a drake Pintail.

Not sure if I can import the Excel data here but I'll try it ...

    Cap Rem Ria Total

    Regular Season Duck Totals 43 32 42 117
    Add Early Teal Season Totals 11 5 12 28 ----- ----- ----- -----

    2007-2008 Grand Total 54 37 54 145
    Total days hunted 47 27 26 61

    Average per hunt 1.1 1.4 2.1 2.4

Keep in mind that of the 61 "days hunted" ... I was on every one of those. In some cases I hunted with just Cappy or Remi. Other days, if Carol went, we hunted both dawgs. And then there were the days that Ria hunted with us this season. She joined us on 26 of the 61 hunts or just over 43% of the time. It could have been with either Cappy or Remi, or in some instances all three.

Ria is being competition campaigned to acheive 1000 points along with her existing Field titles. She should reach that goal this calendar year. By her hunting with us these past two seasons (had never hunted before until with us beginning in November of 2006) she has dramatically enhanced her enthusiasm, marking skills and positive response to remote handling. For that reason I wanted her to have as many retrieves as possible.

Unfortunately, that came somewhat at Cappy's expense who's now 9 an in the twilight of his career. It also came at Remi's expense who (as the figures show) had far fewer hunts and retrieves than the other two dawgs. But she's only 3 and has a number of years ahead of her to catch up, the good Lord willing. But Ria has become part of the family so we're happy to share with her, right pups?

Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.
