Just wondering if feeding 3 times a day is still okay?
When we got him at 5 months that was what the foster mom was doing so we just continued the schedule to keep things consistent, but now that he is 7 months, not sure if it needs to be changed. He has his breakfast and lunch from one of those balls that he rolls around and do we that because it gives him something to do, but also because it means he isn't getting into things while the family eats. He is pretty good at being flexible with schedules, we usually do things around the same time every day since we have two young children, but this past weekend he slept in till 10 while the kids were having a sleep over and didn't mind having a late breakfast.
He is at a great weight right now and it is working for us, but wasn't sure if there was another reason to having them eat only twice or once a day except for convenience?
All four of mine eat three times a day.
My guys both eat twice a day, always have from the time they were pups. I don't think there's anything wrong with three feedings, as long as you don't overfeed and it works for you.

Peanut - 7 year old minpin
Monster - 3-ish year old frenchie/jack, rescue
Mine eat twice a day except Copper who eats once in the morning and gets a treat when everyone else has dinner. We eat at 730am and 5pm and they dont let me forget :
I don't see anything wrong with continuing to feed 3X/day if you want to.
My Giffin & Carlson "Dog Owner's Home Veterinary Handbook" recommends 3X/day feeding for the first 6 months because of a pup's small stomach; after that it's okay to switch to 2X/day. But they don't say you should.

My 2 year old golden still get 3xday and I plan to do the same for Remy. She gets a smaller lunch than her breakfast and dinner - but I like to do a little training/play during my short lunch break with her and we use her kibble for that. And in the summer when she's really active and we up her kibble amount...its just too much food at the other meal times so we like to break it up into 3 meals.

My girls eat 3 times a day. Molly has the "empty stoamch" syndrome & if she doesn't eat closer to bedtime she will sometimes have throw up near 4-5 a.m.
Since she has to eat 3 meals I just feed Abby the same & they both do well.
Great, thanks everyone. I thought maybe I was the only one. I had a Golden growing up and she just had dinner, but since it works for us and Cooper, I think I will just continue.
Our boys eat three times a day, but their last 'meal' is green beans with a scoop of canned pumpkin.
