    DefaultZoesmom ... question for you

What is 3,500 miles away, dark skinned, bundled yet shivering against the cold and never been really close to cattle before?

Carol's cousin, Owen Tamanaha from Pearl City, in some of my hunting clothes yesterday afternoon at 4 pm when the temps were a balmy 38 degrees. Owen wanted to see where his cousin Carol actually did her duck hunting so I gave him a ride around our two properties.

It's unusual for the cattle to be gathered together in the woods near one of the ponds we hunt. There were maybe 20-25 head in there. Owen got a little closer to them for me to take his pic and that's when I noticed ... 2 newborn calves on the ground, and by the looks of some of the cows, several more about to be dropped any moment!

The gathering was almost like a group of midwives standing guard. We left quietly and quickly so as not to disturb them any further. If we get back over there today or Sunday I'll try to get more pics.

Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.

What a great experience you are providing the cousin. I don't understand the cold part. Sounds like tank top and shorts weather.

    Jim,
Thanks for the invite, but I rather be in Hawaii this time of year.

I'm sure Owen is having the time of his life though. Gosh, who wouldn't? Three great people with whom to visit, 2 great dawgs...beautiful property. Great shot of him with the cattle, for sure nothing like that in Pearl City. LOL

I didn't realize how cold it gets over there.

I'm a sissy. This is right now, and to me, that's COLD!!

Linda, if you wouldn't mind, drop Owen a note with a contact number for you so he can tell you about his current and past visit experiences with our two water monkeys. He's at [email protected] and will be back home after the 24th.

He's dumbfounded by some of their "tricks" (including Remi's new "lick lips" on-command one) and wants to share some stories.

Wow Endofile your temperatures make Canadian weather look balmy. (I assume you posted Fahrenheit). I froze my ass off at the dog park this morning and it was 20 degrees Fahrenheit, but with the windchill it felt like 3, but still -11oFthat's cold!!

    Sam's Mom,

It is not unusual for us to be colder that parts of Alaska, and the western provinces with shoreline of Canada. But for the rest of Canada, I don't think we are any colder. Where are you at? Maybe our current coldfront just hasn't made it to the eastern provinces yet. Some moderation from the Great Lakes also depending on your position.

They have a min poodle named Aki. Both Ellie and her son Owen swear their next "dog" will be a Lab. When I tell you that they LOVE Cappy and Remi, I'm not kidding ... as you may soon find out for yourself. I'm sure they would be thrilled to meet Zoe too. They think she and Cappy look quite alike. Funny yeah, all Labs look alike to non-Lab owners ... just like all Haoles look alike to da kine local folks. 8)

I would recognize you in an instant if you were among 100 other haole men.

    I did e-mail Owen...
