    DefaultMuzzle injury

Couple folks expressed concern about what appears to be an ugly cut just below his nostrils on Cappy's muzzle. It showed on one of last night's B-day party pic.

That horizontal "line" is an injury ... but not nearly as serious as might appear. He sustained that last week when he decided to take off on a retrieve in an area I was trying to direct him away from. He nonetheless entered the water and promptly broke through an 1/8" skim of ice extending out 4 feet or so from the shore. As he broke through his front end went down first and he ran the muzzle right into the ice edge.

The skin wasn't broken and there was no damage to the teeth or gum right underneath that area. These dawgs are tougher than barbed wire! By the way, he fetched the duck back to Daddy and I didn't even see the injury for another hour or so until he pleaded with me for treats. :
Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.

    Wow, people are very observant.

    Glad it's not serious, Jim.

    Damn my eyes

You could probably cut his head off and I wouldn't have noticed

I must be getting old...I didn't notice until you mentioned it. These labs just want the ducks....no matter what. Glad it wasn't serious. Great birthday pictures.

I love your pictures Jim. I use your dogs as an example when "people" say hunting dogs need to be kept outside or they lose their hunt drive. Keep posting pictures, I look forward to them.

I wonder if I could borrow the pictures for that purpose. I have a neighbor that keeps his single Lab, has had one for the past 30 years, outside for just that reason. Oh! Forgot one thing. He never hunts, only fishes. Dog doesn't go fishing with him either. Did I mention we are in MN? These por dogs live their lives in a 15x15 chainlink kennel. I truly do not know why they have a dog.
