My dogs have the run of the house while I'm at work, but I always leave a full dish of water for them. It is always untouched when I return. After they greet and maul me at the door when I return, then they drink. I wonder if they are saving it, as they don't know how long I'll be gone?
HK has a 3 gallon water cooler type set up, no cooler. I swear she only drinks after she eats, 6am, 6pm, and after any longer exercise session which she generally has quite a cool down period before she is back in the house. All that said, if we are near river or lake she drinks away. Out in the snow, she will hunt up ice chunks to eat. I don't understand it, but she seems to do fine.
Hershey Kisses, In charge of getting Ed out to the dog park so that he gets some exercise.
I've noticed this too. Raven never drinks when I leave. I wondered if she knew she wouldn't be able to potty for a while so she waits...Though I don't know if that is too in depth for a dog. Whether she was in her crate, or now in our bedroom, she doesn't drink at all or very little.
Not much drinking here ether. I think they sleep the whole time?
Courtney, Bogey and Calli
Rowan is crated so no water for her while I am gone.
i usually have to refill one water bowl when i get home but it's not everyday. when it's warmer outside, they drink while i work. i think they mostly sit on the ottoman and watch the neighborhood.
Tal drinks a little but now that you mention it most days it looks untouched. I suspect Midnight drinks more when I am away than Tal does.
Dixie will not eat or drink water while we are not home.
I don't think mine drink when we're gone either. Normally they eat then drink forever (which I always stop because I'm worried about them bloating).
My dogs don't tend to drink a lot anyhoo as I add lots of water to their meals (except in summer, of course, then they drink more).
Baloo's crated, so he doesn't drink anything, and Peanut and the cats all have access to all three water bowls and they all use each others, so I'm really not sure who drinks what.
I have heard from others that their dogs won't eat or drink when they're gone, probably because they know that no one is there to let them out if they have to go to the bathroom, so if they don't drink/eat they won't need to worry about having to "go".
