For 11 years it has always been Paddy's task: "Take it to da-da". No matter what it was... soft toy, newspaper, trinket, odd bit... just so important that he had his job to do. He still does it.
Paddy's "child" is Seamus. Seamus is now 5+ years old and, I believe, heir to the throne. For the first time ever, tonight I picked up an item and gave it to Seamus (Paddy present in the room). "Take it to da-da, Seamus. Take it to da-da." With just a bit of steering Shea in the direction (nudge head toward dad) he delivered... to hand.
Haha! It was one of those heart *lub-dub* moments when you realize your dog-child has been learning from the oldster dog all along.
Seamus and Flynn
Kisses to Seamus. Good boy!
Nothing more heartwarming than a passing of the torch. Good job Seamus.

Good job, Shea! But, don't be stealing too much of Paddy's thunder, okay? He's still got what it takes to get the job done.

Bittersweet moment, I'm sure.
That is great that Seamus picked up the lesson from Paddy. If they were mine I would be proud also.
I think we need a dog psychologist to comment on this now. How does Paddy feel about it? Is he proud to see that his descendent has learned how to do this task? Is he glad that maybe he won't have to play delivery guy anymore and can rest his body? Does he feel rejected that maybe he didn't do his job well enough and now it has been taken away from him? Is he sad that he is being replaced by some young stud? So many questions, who has the answer?
Hershey Kisses, In charge of getting Ed out to the dog park so that he gets some exercise.
The only thing Jack has learned from Tina has been to eat poop.
Paddy has an extremely hard and responsible role, as do my seniors, Jonah and Jasper...teaching the young 'uns the tricks of the trade. It isn't an easy task and there is a fine balance between passing on the torch and rendering yourself unemployed...sounds like your Paddy did a great job.
Well done to Seamus for being a great student....are you taking note Jed?

Awww, that is really cute. I often wonder how much the "little" ones really are really just sitting back and watching and waiting their turn.
