My son in-law works with a guy who wanted to get rid of their dog. It is a Mastiff lab hybrid so they were told. This guy said he paid a good bit of money for her. Guy said the dog lived in the house for up to a couple weeks ago and then they decided to keep it tied outside. It is a 10 month old female. Well, son in-law felt sorry for it living outside in our cold Pa. winter. Brought it home and daughter noticed it is in heat. I said the dog could be pregnant if it was tied outside for the past month. The guy that gave it away never mentioned it was in heat. He might not even know. My daughter said tomorrow she will make a vet appt. to see when she can have her fixed. I just wondered if there is a way to tell if she is early into the cycle. I'll post pictures of her tomorrow. She is a pretty gal.
hmmm...I'd have them run a progesterone test.
If its less than 4ish, then the dog hasn't ovulated yet.
If she is bleeding red blood, chances are (or at least my bitch) she's not ovulated yet. Usually when my girl ovulates, she stops bleeding profusely.
Best of luck!
She is bleeding a good bit of bright red blood.
Poor dog. God bless your SIL for bringing the girl home. Let's hope she's just entered heat and hasn't been bred. Can't wait to see pics!

Personally, I'd just spay her asap and not worry about how long she's been in heat.
