Last night at about 10 pm, I discovered quite a bit of blood on the carpet. After a brief investigation, we determined that it was Sammi's blood and it was coming from her rear end. John took her to the ER vet and it turns out that Sammi had an infected anal gland that ruptured. They did what they could for her and sent her home with antibiotics and pain meds. I've given her the meds but she's still crying constantly. It's breaking my heart. They told John that I could put a wet, warm wash cloth on her butt 4 times a day or so to help clean it and relieve the pain. I've done that (as much as she'll let me) and now I'm all out of ideas.
Is there anything else I can do for her? I still have some syringes with liquid pain meds from when I took my cat to the vet a couple of weeks ago. I probably shouldn't give her any of that, huh? She's so uncomfortable.
My first lab had many problems with his anal glands. He eventually had them removed. My specialist often had me soak a warm washcloth in Epsom salt before I put it on his butt and it seemed to releave some of his discomfort.
I really think adding Pumkin to her food everyday will help I know it has for Buddy he gets 2 tablespoons a day for the last 4 yrs no more itchy butt or butt scooting except if he eats chicken I hope She starts to feel better soon
Oh gosh. Poor Sammi. :'( It's terrible to see them hurting and know there is nothing else you can do. Hopefully the pain meds will start working soon. Poor baby. :'(
