We are all very upset with this sad news. :'( Last year Copper our 10 year old (still acts like a puppy) spaniel had a lump on her leg. The vet tried to do an aspirate but couldn't get anything. Lump would come an go, was not very big and not bothering her at all. Not to worry unless it got bigger and was bothering her.
In the last month the lump has gotten huge and she started limping. Back to the vet and this time they mangaged to get something to send off for pathology.
Turns out to be a mast cell tumor which is also in the lymph nodes of her leg. The vet is saying it may have spread as well since it is in the lymph nodes. We are devistated. Vet said that removing the leg is an option, but because the lymph nodes are involved, the prognosis is not very good. So now she is on prednisone to help shrink the tumor and meds to help prevent a systemic raction from histamine release that may occur. This may give us more time with her, but things are not looking good......
