I have been keeping Skippy inside all day because it is deer hunting season and he is scared of gunshot sounds. I noticed on Monday that my work pants had a couple of drops of blood on the pantleg. I immediatly wondered what dog was bleeding where. I checked Skippy's tail, and sure enough he had a little chunk off the end of it. For those of you who don't know, we had to have half his long, beautiful, happy tail amputated last year because he had finally whacked it so much on stuff that it couldn't heal up. It healed very nicely from the surgery and we haven't had any trouble since - until now :-\ He was also in the kennel over Thanksgiving for several days, which is where he first had trouble last year (beats it against the cement walls) It looks like there is a little chunk of hair out too, so I am hoping that maybe he caught his hair in the wire fence and pulled some out, making his tail bleed instead of causing it by hitting it. I have hopes that it can heal, because he really doens't hit it at home hardly at all, but right now I have 3 pairs of pants with little blood drops, and I just cleaned the walls up (nothing like last year though) Could use some "tough tail" prayers for the Skipmiester :-[
:'( Poor boy. Sending waggily (but not too waggily) thoughts for a happy tail your way.

Oh no, Pat! Good thoughts for the Skiptail. Meanwhile, I imagine you know how to wrap a tail--given what you've been through--but just in case, make sure to vet-wrap it way, way high up, so the bandage doesn't fling off. I would probably reinforce the end with athletic tape, too.
For a really serious case, you might consider doing what Great Dane breeders do:
Aww poor Skippy. Sending all my best tail healing thoughts for you...
