Met up with a guy, maybe 70, who was considerably overweight, and his chocolate lab about 6 years old and also overweight. He suggested I go by because he doesn’t walk very fast. I said that I wouldn’t mind walking at his pace if he thought it would be alright for the dog’s to play and run. That was fine with him, but he made sure to mention that his dog didn’t run very much. He was overweight but has lost 5 pounds in one month just from the walking they do since they found the dog park. And he the owner had lost almost 10.
Well, as we walked the dogs started running more and more. It was warming (27 degrees F and 30 mph wind) to see how much his dog appeared to love running with HK. Not sure who was chasing who the most. Then I noticed the gentlemans pace picking up. When we finished the loop he told me that he needed to walk with others rather than try go be solo. He hadn’t seen his dog have that much fun or run that much in 5 years. And that he felt better having picked up the pace himself.
I guess we have to get Dog Parks on the healthy lifestyle list. I know the dog, Moose, has a great time with HK, as did she. I am pretty sure the older gentleman did too.
Hershey Kisses, In charge of getting Ed out to the dog park so that he gets some exercise.
That is a nice story. Hopefully the dog park will help them to both be healthier!
Baloo - 5 year old black lab
Peanut - 7 year old minpin
Monster - 3-ish year old frenchie/jack, rescue
Sounds like you and HK have a pair of wonderful new friends to walk with!

Now that's an awesome dog park story. ;D
