That's a very old sailor's expression.
"Tis a good north wind that blows the Honkers down" ... is my version.
And the proof of that are 20 giant Canadas that decided to stop for a rest this morning on our pond about 40 yards from the back door. My two yellar dawgs pay little if any attention to the mallards that are with us year-round. But 20 Honkers was a bit too much for them and both decided they should be barking big time. Not sure if that was to signal me or to tell the Honkers to quit teasing .... 8 more days to go.
Remi and Rusty aren't my whole life. They're trying to fill the hole in my heart left by Cappy's passing.
Wesley LOVES to chase the geese that collect this time of year in a nearby field. They go flying off in a huff, like old ladies at a Macy's white sale who find out that after schlepping all the way down to the store, the pillowcases they had their hearts set on sold out hours ago.
"COME ON DAD!!!"
Billie would want to chase them. She hasn't a clue what you're supposed to do with birds.
Ria got her first goose last year on the last day of the season and I'm sure she'd like to get a few more.
