Took Jonah to the beach for the first time yesterday. We took him to a beach that doesn't usually have dogs and kept him on leash this time. We do have a beach close to us that allows dog off leash, but you usually run into quite a few dogs there, and we wanted his first experience to be more about the water and sand than about meeting other dogs. We'll try that one next time.
He wasn't too sure about the water at first (he'd run up like he was going in, but then would run back as the waves hit shore). He finally timed the waves and made a dash out to his family already in the water (DH and kids). He went out after them several times after that. But his favorite part of the day was saying hello to everyone that walked by and digging in the sand (I kept having to move my chair because he kept digging a hole around the legs of it!).
The kids dug a "pool" just for Jonah:
"I like this swimming stuff"
He would swim out to DH & kids, hang out with them for a minute, and then swim back to me (I don't go in very often, we fished those waters often and I know what lurks below!):
AAAWWW your baby Jonah looks like he is having a wonderful first visit to the beach, and what a clever baby boy doing swimming already, i'm glad he had a nice time and hope he goes on to have many more-

Fantastic day for you, your family, and Jonah. Isn't it great the first time a Lab swims?

Great pictures. Looks like it was a fun day.
looks like Jonah and Bella are around the same age, she
will be 20 weeks this coming Monday. Last time she was
weighed at the vet at 18 weeks was 30 lbs, Jonah seems
much bigger ! Our Bella swam in our pool before we closed
it, we live in MA. We wanted her to have experience before
next summer when the pool opens again, I hope she remembers
Wowza, what fun. And that water is amazingly clear. Where is that?
Jonah sure is a cutie!
I love beach pics, and your beach is beautiful!

Jonah weighed 31 pounds on Tuesday, he was 17 weeks. Vet actually said he was too thin, so we increased food. I think I can see a difference already!Originally Posted by bearbuddymarieWe live in South East Florida. It was a great day! We only let the kids in the water when it is clear like that (again due to the fishing we've done mentioned above). Luckily we get that clear water and sky often here!Originally Posted by ChowHound
