DefaultSEE ROCK CITY (with your pet!)

I checked online this morning to see if Rock City had any info about pets being allowed. Well, turns out they even have a special mention of pets on their site!

So this is what we'll be doing Saturday afternoon. We are really excited! It will be a lot of fun for us, and the boys can enjoy it too! I just hope we don't wear them out with too much walking. It says 4,100 feet of walking trails. What's that in miles? ???

I don't want to go on any bridge or to the edge of any cliffs. No heights for me, thanks.

I think a mile is just over 5000, math was a long time ago. I wish we had someplace like that around here, it looks awesome.

Ok I googles it 5280 feet in a mile

    It's less than 1 mile. (1 mile = 5280 feet).

Oh sweet! That's not far at all!

Amy, it's in Chattanooga, TN. If you travel the interstate in the east, especially in the southeast, you will see tons and tons of barns whose roofs bear the words, "SEE ROCK CITY." (Which is why I have to capitalize it...I'm really not shouting! )

Kevin and I went when we were little, and I remember it making a huge impression. There is one area you can go to, at the top of the mountain, and look out over seven states. What I remember most from then, I guess, Mother Goose Gardens. They had all these little statues of Mother Goose characters in the forest. Very cute for kids!

I'd say everyone within 200 miles has been there at least once in their life. With all those dang barns haranguing you everywhere you drive, you almost feel like you have to I guess! It was really a very brilliant marketing campaign. I just read the story on the Web site. Apparently the owner paid a sign painter to travel around the country and offer to paint farmer's barns for free, in exchange for being allowed to paint SEE ROCK CITY on the roof of the barn. What an idea! ;D

Their signature souvenir is a barn bird house with, of course, SEE ROCK CITY painted on the roof. I think everyone has had one of those too.

I have not been to Rock City since I was in Jr. High, but we used to go all the time when we lived near Memphis. Sort of a time warp back to 1950's tourist destinations, and pretty cool!

Cool! That would make a nice day trip for me and one of the furkids. Only about an hour and a half from here!
