we took abbey to the vet last night around 8:00 to check what we thought was a ringworm spot on her belly. turns out to be a staph infection but it's not serious in dogs. they gave her some antibiotics to take for 10 days and i have to rub peroxide on it every night. cost me 80.00
as she was getting out of my SUV, she didn't wait for DH to put her ramp down when her younger sister cinder jumped out to greet the guy who parked next to us. i had to jump to grab cinney's leash so she wouldn't bolt and i turned around and saw abbey sprawled on the concrete of the parking lot. she took a flying leap off the back of the truck and we had just had her knees reconstructed last december. DH was yelling at me because i wasn't watching abbey while he was busy and i was keeping an eye on cinder who is like a giant kangaroo and needs no stinkin' ramp. this morning, abbey won't put any weight on her leg and DH had to take a half day off work to take her back to the vet to make sure nothing serious is going on. if you have any good thoughts left, i could certainly use some right now.
i should have never given up my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
well, the clinic did an xray on both legs and saw quite a bit of arthritis around the joints so they have her on some pain meds. she needs to take 3 of them twice a day for a month (have to hide them in cheese because she picks them out of her food). then she is taking a pain shot once a week for 3 weeks (have to take her to the vet for these). and finally, it was recommended to give her something over the counter called Glucosanine HCL (spelling) to cause the liquid between the joints to harden up somewhat so it would create a padding between the knee bones. she will get these the rest of her life. she needs to drop about 30 pounds real fast to ease up on the joints so i am to half the amount of food she gets and compensate the other half with green beans. the vet said her dog was given this diet and dropped weight immediately. Thanks so much for your good wishes. I believe they truely helped out our girl. it's difficult having two labs when one needs a lot of specialized attention but they are both definitely worth it.
Ah crap, sorry to hear she's reinjured a knee. Good thoughts for Abbey.
Me, Abzilla and the Helomonster.
Hope she's feeling better
Good thoughts and prayers that it isn't anything serious.
I hope she didn't injure herself too seriously.

Ah man--hoping she didnt do anything serious.
Poor Abbey. I hope it's just a minor boo-boo.

Oh no ... sending good thoughts that she is feeling better soon.
Hoping for the best for Abbey. Why do they go and hurt themselves?
