    DefaultDiatomaceous earth...did you know this?

    From wikipedia:

Diatomaceous earth, when mixed with nitroglycerin, stabilizes it, and the result is known as Dynamite. Dynamite is much safer to transport and handle than nitroglycerin in its raw form.
In 1866, Alfred Nobel discovered that nitroglycerin could be made much more stable if absorbed in diatomite. He patented this mixture as dynamite in 1867, and the mixture is also referred to as guhr dynamite.

Well, I knew what diatomaceous earth is because it's used as a filtering medium in my one aquarium filter. Didn't know the other. That just blows my mind. :

Diatomaceous earth is also used in filtering pools.

But that other information, no, I did not know that.

You should be OK as long as you dont get it mixed with your nitroglycerin.

I believe it will also kill slugs be dehydrating them when they crawl on it.

I used to use it to control slugs in my shade garden but you need to wear a mask when working with it and it's dangerous for the doggies.

Yepper, I knew that, heck the chemical reaction with nitric acid and glycerine is what makes nitro-glycerine. But you'd be surprise what other neat things react with nitric acid to produce explosives, with some of it and yer cotton Fruit of the Looms we can also blow stuff up, than ain't even couting the skid marks. ;D

Oh BTW I have some nitro-glycerine but it is already stabilized and is in a legal form, but there are others on the board who have some and don't know it. I bet Mark and Jim have some, but I also bet they know they do. (Hint it has nothing to do with a bad heart.)

I am SO GLAD no one in this house takes nitroglycerin! I would be flipping out right now!

Incidentally, there is a fine dust of diatomaceous earth everywhere now. :
