Our Labs recognize our touch? was petting Tal the other night and was wondering if he would be able to differentiate between me and another person based on how he was petted.
I have noticed that he will not let anyone but me wipe his face..like the gunk from his eyes after sleeping, or if he gets some grass or something on his nose. If someone else tries to remive whatever from his face he won't let them. He's not growling or anything he just backs up and won't let them.
Now if someone wants to pet him and let him lick them...well that's another matter!
I know that they recognize an individual's whistle, I don't know about touch. I expect Tal would know its you by the smell no matter what!

If you are close enough to touch, I think he would recognize your smell first.
Don't you know that labs know everything?
Yes, I do believe that they recognize your smell and touch. Maggie will lift her head and look at the person when somebody else touches her head and will only lean closer to me when I touch her head.
I think they do. Ours definitely respond differently depending on who touches them, even depending on whether it's me or Mark (though that may have as much to do with their mood as anything else).

Not my current pair of labs, but my last ones, Jake and Joshua.
when we used to take them to visit hubby's Nan many years ago, Josh, the chocolate used to sit with his back against the arm of the chair tilting his head back for scratching as Nan had long nails and he really used to enjoy it, she would deliberately stop momentarily and he would thrust his head backwards again to get her attention.
He never forgot and he didn't see her regularly, but everytime we went he'd do the same.
