Ok so will try to make it short and just summarize. Basically he has had one diarrhea incidence and one incidence of vommiting up small amount of what appeared to be undigested food. He had multiple potty breaks leading up to the diarrhea but only one time of actual diarrhea. So last night I made a point to call my husband from work and tell him not to feed him any dog food but fix him some rice and see what happens. So he did and he kept it down. He did heave this morning but did not vommit anything up. He was begging me for food this morning so I gave him some rice again this morning which he devoured. But he is not touching his water dish. My husband fixed him rice again tonight and is watching him closely to see what he does. Which again he devoured in pure lab fashion. He has not gone out to pee most likely due to not drinking any water. My husband says he knows what he wants and doesn't want. If he does ok today I think I will try to slowly bring the dog food back and see but I am concerned that he is not drinking water all day today. If he does not drink tonight I will call the vet tomorrow. I am in the process of switching his food too from Iams weight control to Eukenuba lab formula. Its been ongoing for a week now with no issues. I asked my husband if he gave him the new food only? I think that might have been the case he says he doesn't remember :-\
I feel bad for my boy.... he's not lethargic but I can tell he is not 100% either. How long can a lab go without drinking water?
I am sorry you pup isn't good.
I am sure some of the more experienced owners will help.
when Kass was sick I put warm chicken stock in her water to get fluids down her. Also walking makes them thirsty.
I hope Baxter has drank some water. Sending good thoughts that he feels better soon.
I would give him some ground meat with the rice. Good to go to the vet if he is not drinking.
hope baxter's feeling better today?
and most importantly, hope he's drank some water.
Hoping Baxter is doing better.
I hope Baxter is doing better. My male just went through the same thing but seemed to be better within a couple of days. How pathetic they are after vomitting. Mine always wants to be loved on, drool strings & all!
Thank you for all your get well wishes! I think he is doing better. I gave him his food again today to see and he ate it and kept it down so far! Think he is feeling much better as he was begging to go for a walk today. Hope whatever it was has passed.
I'd be concerned about dehydration, especially if it's warm where you are. Glad he's keeping his food down and acting more like himself, but do monitor the fluid intake. Even if he seems more normal, if he's not drinking at all, get him to the vet just in case.
Toby and Chamois say: GO STEELERS!
Yeah if he still is not drinking any water I'd definitely get him to the vet. Don't want him to get badly dehydrated.
And hope he is feeling lots better...and drinking his water!
