My poor girl had had two surgeries within the past two weeks for intestinal blockages. It's nothing she ate.....it turns out she has a defect in her ileatic valve that is preventing her stool from passing into the colon. It backs up into her intestines. For Abby, fiber is a bad thing. She had been on ProPlan Weight Management Formula dog food (kibble) and couldn't handle it. She will now be on a low density food and most likely a stool softener. At the first sign of a hard poop I have to call the vet. Awww.....dontcha just love poop patrol?
Anyway, here's some pictures of her from the first surgery. One was done on September 17th and the last one just this past Monday, October 1st. She was one sick girl and looking very pathetic!
In the vet's office the day after surgery:
Was I ever glad to see her! I honestly thought we were going to lose her....that's how sick she was.
Jack was totally stressed out about his sister, as usual!
She seems to have taken the second surgery a little better than the first. This time she has 20 staples in her belly. If the new food doesn't do the trick, we may be looking at a bowel resection in her future. I pray it never comes to that!
