    DefaultPhooey. We have kennel cough.

    *sigh*

Riley is the only invalid right now. I am treating with with 1 tsp of Robitussin every 4 hrs (as encouraged by my vet.)

I am just waiting for everyone else to come down with it, as well.

How does this happen? His bordatella is up to date and he hasn't been anywhere. Could I have brought this in on my shoes??

Aw, it's awful isn't it? The sound of the *hack hack hacking*?

You're on a good course. The Bordatella vaccine doesn't prevent against all viral strains. I went through this with Paddy when he was young. I thought he was going to choke to death. : I never kennel my dogs, ergo, they never receive the vaccine. That would just be more $$ in the clinic till.

It's a rhinovirus, just like a human cold. Treat it appropriately as you would yourself.

    Thanks, Nance.

I hate to think I am vaccinating with something that doesn't cover all the strains. Maybe I will rethink this vax when their yearlies come up. :-\

Well, you know my stand on this vaccine now.

So sorry you are dealing with this. I hope they get better quickly.

Now you know why many of us don't give the vaccine. It doesn't work (or cover all the strains).

Its like the common cold. Sometimes you just get lucky even though you haven't been anywhere or around anyone who's been sick.

Exactly why I don't get it for my guys any longer. I will have to if I ever board them; otherwise, no. Way too many strains out there and the vac doesn't cover them all.
Sorry your baby is hacking...hopefully it won't go to the others. I had it with a few fosters and none of my crew got it. Paws crossed!

    Sandy! Your siggie pic....priceless!

Feel better, Linda. I have a syringe and some Robitussin if you need it. But only, if you don't mind a little dog slobber.

Thanks everyone. I feel better knowing that this was not caused by something I could have avoided. *fingers crossed* that the puppy doesn't get it.

My whole crew got it last year after the Potomac Specialty. One after the other, and all had been given the vaccine.
I hope they get some relief with the cough medicine. I remember using it mostly at night so they would sleep better (and then I would sleep better too!) Hang in there.
