Defaultwho has a Lab with wobbler's syndrome?

We are going to meet a six-year old black male on Sunday. He has wobbler's syndrome and I was wondering if, should we adopt him, there is anything special we need to watch out for other than not letting him run too much? Will just running and playing with Buddy cause him to wobble? Or is that just from too much retrieving and running hard?

I saw a thing on Animal Planet that had doberman's with this disease. One of them was really severe and had had surgery on her neck, the other was managed with wraps and meds. I think it can vary quite a bit.

    If you're looking for a rowdy Buddy-playmate I don't know that a dog with wobbler's would be such a great idea. :-\

The technical name for Wobbler's is cervical vertebral instability. Just that name alone would scare me away from letting them rough house and play the way 2 labs will play when together. Just my opinion...not based on any research or anything. I would just be too nervous. If the dog has been treated and is doing well, I'd worry that one rough bitey face session could change that.

Okay, I'm thinking this boy would not be good for Buddy to play with. Buddy leaps like a gazelle and loves to get wild and crazy, and I'd always be afraid the new boy would get hurt. I guess he's not the one for us.

I'm so sorry Jackie..when I read the article I sent in..that was my immediate thought..he would not be a good play buddy for Buddy. I think you need a very lively healthy bud for Buddy. I'm sorry though.

There will be one for you, Jackie, no worries! With all the dogs out there needing homes, you'll find your match.
