    DefaultInward sneezing

I had never seen a dog do this until we got our first beagle. It just happened that one of the breeder's older dogs had an "attack" while we were there and she told us how to deal with it. So I thought it was an all dog thing. But nobody else seemed to know what I was talking about. I asked my basset friend and she said her dogs never did that. So I came to believe that it was a beagly thing. Then we got the foxhound and she would do it ??? Now BJ has started. Is it guilt by association or is inward sneezing common?

Its called reverse sneezing and yes its common. Do a Google on it and you'll see all the articles about it. Nothing to worry about.

Thank you! I had just come to believe it was a hound thing and was surprised when BJ started in this week. His episodes seem much shorter than the beagles. The breeder told us to open their mouths and pull their tongues forward but I have had my thumb clamped down on a couple of times during the next sneeze so I prefer to massage their throats. I know it doesn't hurt them but they sure seem to be upset when it happens.

Shadow used to do it, and would have some pretty severe episodes. I learned that if I gently covered her nostrils with my finger, it stopped almost immediately.
