    DefaultBroken tooth question

I posted yesterday that Frankie has a broken top molar. We're not going to do anything with it just yet, other than watch it. I called the vet back before to ask if he should be on an antibiotic. Dr. H. said no, unless he starts to swell under his eye. Right now he's got a tiny bubble on his gumline. OK, so now I'm concerned that it might get worse while we're on vacation next week. The vet even said that if I'm concerned that it will swell next week, then I can get the antibiotic to bring with us, just in case. I'm not sure if I should at this point.

What are your experiences with broken teeth not getting pulled right away? Do they normally swell up pretty quickly?

I don't have any experience with broken teeth but I think I would get the pills to take with you, just in case.
    But that's just me.

I know I am too overprotective, but when I took Abby for her health certificate to cross the border, I asked my vet what else to put in her First Aid bag. My vet gave me pills for diarrhea, ear wash solution & gauze pads & eye wash solution. But they will be out in the boonies, hunting for two weeks & I would rather have SU have those things. Silly maybe, but it made me feel better.

Good point Georgie, thanks. I need to put together some stuff for them anyway....earwash, etc.

Poor Frankie! He always seems to get himself in all sorts of trouble, doesn't he?

I don't have experience either but there was a child here in D.C. who died about 6 months ago because of dental neglect and an infection that went to the brain. I would be real worried if there was swelling under the eye. That would mean the infection had spread.

I call it the doggy diaper bag.

I don't have experience, but I'd get the antibiotic too.
