My Riley is a girl, and the first thing I get from people when they hear her name is "Is your dog a boy or girl?" ... then they kind of try to look under her to see if she has indoor or outdoor plumbing :. I tell them she is a girl and I get "What, that's a BOY'S name!".
She was called #3 for 2 weeks (she was the 3rd puppy born). We put a lot of thought into her name and tried a few out, like Penny, Madison, Elsie. I like those names, but Riley just seems to fit her and I like it.
I couldn't change it now, but do you guys think it's too strange to have a female pup named Riley?
I know a kid Riley, and she's a girl. I'm not sure if she spells it Ryley or Rylie or something "girlie" like that, but it still sounds the same, no?
I also know a chocolate lab Riley, and he's definitely a boy.
I think Riley is a name that could suit either gender.
If it's any consolation, everyone thinks Henery is a girl. "Oh!! What a pretty little puppy! How old is she?" me: "Um, HE'S four."
Riley is a great name, boy or girl!
People think Zoe is a boy (at the beach) because she is so athletic.
Linda and Zoë, the Umlaut
I know a girl named Riley.
And people think Oakley is a name for a boy too. Nope, for me, its a girls name.
I like that name. My neighbors dog is names Riley & she is a girl too.
My girl is named Magnum, so there you go
People always think she is a he.
What can ya do :P
Jacey was going to be named Riley for as long as I could remember but when I picked her up from the breeder I had a few names I liked (it was a VERY long trip to get her) and we talked about names and together we decided on Jacey..
My male choclolate, Merlot, is a male. As you know Merlot is a red wine consumed by women. REAL men drink beer and whiskey, never red wine ;D So, there you go. I have a friend that named his female chocolate "Roger". You can't go wrong naming a pet
Likewise, I think Riley fits either gender. Some friends of mine have a daughter named Riley. I don't think it is strange at all. Unless it is an intact male, I usually just ask he or she? before I know the name.
I've had people not ask the name or gender and say SHE is a nice dog, etc about Tal. He doesn't have any dingleberries to give it away so I guess they check things out and just assume... :
*giggle*He doesn't have any dingleberries
I have heard Riley used both ways. I think it is very fitting of your little Girl!
