or for anyone who enjoys a sweet story. It's called Before You Were Mine by Maribeth Boelts. A co-worker brought this book in for me to read this morning. My mascara is now running down my face. :'( It's about a boy whose family has a rescue dog. I wish I could give it to every person who adopts a dog from us, or has a rescue of their own, and to every person who works in rescue. Here are a few excerpts:
"Before you were mine...Did you live in a warm house with warm smells, and a rug that was only yours? Was your boy proud when you learned a trick? Did he talk about you at recess?
Before you were mine, someone must have let you go…maybe it was because they forgot that puppies chew stuff and pee on the carpet and bark at birds.
Before you were mine…they couldn't have known what they had in a dog like you...or they would have never let you go. So maybe it doesn't matter what happened before you were mine…because now, you’re home."

I'll have to see if I can pick that up for my children's lit class
