I need to buy 2 vari kennels for travel and wonder what brand you all have bought. I don't want to go cheaper and have it not be a decent quality kennel. Also, what size do you get for travel? Maddy is a 47lb lab mix and her home crate is 36" and Sydney is a 8m old lab and her home crate is 42". 1 trip will be 6 hrs and the other trip will be 2 days of 12 hours of course both will have stops as we have 3 kids also. Thanks
First, VariKennel is a brand. Are you looking for wire or plastic? What kind of vehicle are you going to be putting them in? The dimensions of the interior will be a deciding factor on what you can fit in there. Are your home kennels wire or plastic? You might want to stick with what your dogs are already used to and comfortable in. Try putting them both in the vehicle and see if they fit.
I use the plastic crates (one is a VariKennel) both at home and in my van, because that's what I had and what Buddy was used to.
Thank you. I was looking online and other brands said vari kennel so I didn't realize that was a brand. They have wire crates at home but I want the plastic ones for travel since I am thinking they are probably safer. They are going to go in the back of a Ram 1500 Quad cab pick up with a topper secured down as we have 3 kids so the back seat is taken up with 2 boosters and another kid. Also I want to put them in if I can in my mini van when I don't have all the kids with me as I have stow and go and can actually fold down all the seats.
Of course, they do break. Had one destroyed by UPS. They wouldn't pay for the damage because it "wasn't packaged properly". Its a bloody airline crate you dipwads! Its suppose to survive an airline crash!!!
Yes I realize they break but I am thinking for the vehicles we have this is my best option to keep the dogs safe. We travel alot with our travel trailer and want to take the dogs with us when we go of course and keep the dogs as safe as we can. The airline ones is what I was looking at as I thought those would be safer for the dogs to travel in. Right now we have been taking 2 vehicles with the kids and dogs and with gas prices and longer trips we would like to be able to take just the truck since my van will not tow the trailer well.
Check WalMart. The new one I just got there has spaces in the corners to put tie-downs through. The XL grey one is big enough for a Great Dane! Buddy can lay down with all four legs straight out in this one, as well as stand up with plenty of head room. Two of the large size will fit in a minivan, as I can fit this XL and the other one (just a large) both in my KIA Sedona - barely.
ETA - the one I got at WalMart is rated for airline travel and comes with the "LIVE ANIMAL" stickers.
