So tonight I am the dog walker, as Kevin is gone to his class reunion. We walked our usual route, but saw some new people in one of the yards. Two teenage girls, two small kids and a mom, all hanging around out front.
All the kids descend on us, "Ooooo, look at the dogs!" Simon is thinking, "ALRIGHT! Worship me!" Angus looks like he's doing OK at first, and then suddenly...stranger danger. > One of the littlest ones approached him, and he did his little skittle backwards and bark.
I jerked a knot in his butt he will not soon forget.
Anyway, the teenagers AND kids were totally, totally awesome about it. Perfect. Honestly, if I tried to hire someone to help me with this, I could not have done better. They were like, "Oh, yeah, I've known some dogs like that. It's not like they're mean-spirited, they're just shy or afraid."
;D Yes! Yes! That's what it is! I love you! :-*
So after Angus' correction, they came in very slowly and carefully. All of them, one at a time. Mom was coaching them from the sidelines: "Now go slowly, keep your hands down, there you go, don't move too quickly..." They all petted him eventually. While he did not love it, he did tolerate it. He was praised mightily for his efforts.
Meanwhile, Simon, the attention whore, was going around collecting kisses from whoever would notice him.
They were just a really awesome cool family. They were SO nice about it. I thanked them heartily for letting us "practice," as we don't get that many opportunities. The mom said, "See, does he see small children very often? That's probably what it was, he's just not used to little kids, and especially when they come running at him all crazy..."
God bless them. Every one.

Glad Angus got a chance to meet such special kids! Simon you crack me "attention whore"! ;D
That's great Connie. Nothing like meeting some willing participants. I hope this helps Angus.

What a great family! Connie, that was such a great training session for Angus. Simon, you big mush, you just love it all, don't ya, boy?
Jackie, Champ, and Buddy
That was a really nice family. I'm glad Angus had practice with the strangers. Good job Angus. Sounds like Simon was happy too with all the attention.
That sounds like a great opportunity. These dogs are just so funny. Sky doesn't bark, but she shy's away from strangers and it can take some talking to get her to approach whereas Moose is more like Simon.

I wish more parents were that way with their kids.
Good work Angus! Simon you sound like my two!
What wonderful news. Hopefully you will be able to practice with them on a regular basis.
That's awesome, Connie!!
